Professor for a Day: Guest Lecturing at UMD

October 23, 2012 @ 8:00 am - 6:00 pm

For the second year in a row, Erin Schulte Swanson will be guest lecturing at the University of Minnesota in Duluth on the topic of social media law. Dr. Patricia Borchert, Assistant Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship, has invited Erin back to speak to her students during the Fall 2012 semester.  Erin will speak to two entrepreneurship classes on Tuesday, October 23rd regarding the legal issues business owners should avoid when using social media in their companies.

Later in the day, Erin will talk to students in Professor John Kratz’s Social Media Marketing class about what employers can and cannot legally do when reviewing job applicants’ social media profiles.  This information should be especially helpful for senior students who have begun their search for jobs after graduation.  Finally, Erin will meet with the Entrepreneurship Club and present an abbreviated version of her presentation on the legal side of using social media in business.

Last November, Erin presented to two of UMD’s entrepreneurship classes and the Entrepreneurship Club. She outlined strategies for avoiding legal traps when using social media for marketing or recruitment purposes. Having launched her own company two years ago, Erin also answered the students’ questions about how to start a new business.

Special thanks to Dr. Borchert for this opportunity!
